The band High Cotton, hailing from Alpharetta, Ga. is coming to the mountains - bringing to the 2008 Chautauqua AVÉ their unique blend of musical styles and their incredible passion for performing. "We write and perform an eclectic mix of Americana - Roots originals and we incorporate a few well placed 'covers' that have what we call the 'ah-ha' factor (IE, I know that song - always loved it - never get to hear it) that audiences love."
High Cotton's original music has been described as "Americana with a Twist," which is not surprising since their collective backgrounds include Rock, Folk, Country, Celtic and more. High Cotton takes pride in writing diverse songs; tunes with humor, pathos and just plain, good times. The group is powered by the expressive, passionate voice of Laura Monk and complimented by driving acoustic guitar, lyrical bass lines, well-placed lead and an eclectic mix of percussion- all wrapped in three and four part harmonies.
High Cotton's live shows are characterized by energy and audience interaction. "We banter with each other and with the crowd. Don't be surprised if one or two off beat 'trivia' questions - usually related to a song - work their way into the evening and the correct answer is 'awarded' a seriously tacky prize." Some songs will tickle your funny bone... others will tug at your heart strings and bring a tear to your eye!
The May, 2008 issue of Music News Nashville reviewed High Cottons CD, Pictures: "High Cotton is by far one of the most unique bands I have heard in quite some time. An eclectic mix works, like on the harmony-filled Song For A Mountain Weekend or on the touching Pictures. Music City Lights is a highlight, with a slight jazz feel. It really works well. Other standouts are the infectious Carry You, which brings to mind the best of Roy Orbison's Monument recordings of the 1960s."
